The All-in-the-Family Kitchen

Today's kitchen's are not your mother's kitchen, where she was isolated cooking and cleaning while the rest of the family was having fun. It's now a "hub" in the home where all kinds of activities take place. Homework, officework, TV watching, internet surfing,  entertainment and crafts as well as cooking and cleaning.

So with more than one person/lots of activities in the kitchen, proper design and layout are critical. There are more appliances in kitchens today, additional activities like recycling, so the traditional work triangle design concept is pretty outdated. We are designing more kitchens today using the work station concept:  prep, storage, cooking, clean up are each housed in an area. It's also referred to as the Zone Kitchen Design. Its a very efficient way to design today's kitchen/lifestyle.
