Finding a happy medium between a home for you and your family now and 30 years from now can be challenging and can feel impossible. It is important to understand the variety of selections and choices one can have at their disposal while working in a home renovation.

It is never to soon to begin thinking about how you want your home to work for you now and how you want your home to work for you in 30 years. A family's needs can change as it grows throughout the years and your home should be able to work to make a families life easier no matter the age. Space is one of the first things that should be considered in a home. When thinking about the amount of space there is to work with it can be easier to determine the appliances, usage, and storage abilities the home has. From here a home owner would be able to decide the best choices to increase mobility and reaching capabilities.

Secondly, it is important to consider the prevention of illness and burn threats inside the kitchen area. A universal kitchen allows for a wide range of movement and storage space as well as the advances in appliances that allow for a family to stay safe. Consider the investment of counter tops designed with safety and sanity qualities in mind as well as stove tops designed to cook fast with minimal burn risks. Sinks and faucets are also available to prevent the spread of bacteria through touching handles as well as reduce strain with cleaning dishes by increasing the sink and faucet space and mobility. These simple features will aid in every day life no matter the age of those in residence.

Lastly, but certainly not least is the bathroom. This space is full of slipping hazards and should be carefully considered. There are a multitude of ways that can increase safety and functionality of a bathroom. Some of these ways include but are not limited to: a barrier free shower and/or wet room designed to allow the maximum amount of free range motion. A shower and/or tub can be selected based on the variety of style and motion the home owner desires. Keep in mind that these choices are available to age with the family and aid to any needs that develop in hopes that its design with not deter younger families from making choices that will grow to help them once they reach older ages.
