What Colors Should You Use In Your Home?

Choosing the right colors for your home can be a challenge and often times you may have to choose more than one. Here you can see an outline of how colors may go together and what kinds of effects they may create.

Monochromatic - This is the use of one color while utilizing the different shades and tints available. This is most often used with browns, blacks, whites, and greys.

Analogous - This is the use of two colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. One color will dominate the space while the other will be thrown in here and there to add variety and intensity. You can obtain both a warm and cool feel in a room when using this technique.

Triad - Three different colors are used to obtain a specific feel for a room. It can range depending on the colors chosen.

Complementary - This is the use of two colors that are the opposites of each other. One will create a warm feeling while the other a cool. purple and gold would be an example of this.

Neutral - the combination of blacks, whites, and greys. Sometimes included with a brilliant color to create a unique design.

Yellow - yellow has been said to increase irritability, but also has been known to increase appetite and memory retention.

Green - Can often be used as a neutral color or with a complementary color.

Blue - Blue has been said to decrease appetite and increase thought processes. It is popular in both bathrooms and kitchens.

Purple - Often associated with wealth and spiritual beings. Not often used because of its dramatic look and feel however can be used infrequently or in a guest bedroom.

Reds and Pinks - These colors increase appetite and will encourage the public to spend more money. It has been said to encourage peoples impulses and leads to encouragement. It often times has also been said to be a stress reducing color.

Orange and Browns - Orange can be fun and playful while browns are more safe and neural
