Gas or Electric Oven: Which Is Better?

When deciding between a gas oven and an electric oven, start by determining what you'll be using it for most.
Gas ovens generate a moist hear for juicy meats and poultry. If your a big baker, and electric oven is a better choice because it generates a dry hear more suited for baking and raising dough.

Of course, either type of over can be used for both roasting and baking.  Without room for two separate ovens-or the budget for one with both capabilities-most people would probably choose an electric oven, but the decision should be dictated by a number of factors unique to your needs.

As you compare ovens, you'll find fewer gas options. Keep in mind that most appliance manufacturers don't pay a lot of attention to the gas oven market, so the models you find will have limited features compared to electric models. The oven capacity of a gas unit is typically smaller than its electric counterpart. However, if you're renovating an older kitchen, you may find a gas oven closer in size to the existing space cut from your cabinetry. Gas ovens cost less than electric ovens, and there are fewer things that can go wrong. This is a result of less expensive parts, fewer electronic controls, and less insulation needed because most gas ovens don't offer a self-cleaning feature.

It's recommended that you start with major considerations, such as your cooking needs, your budget, the space the new oven needs to fit, and the fuel type you're set up for. Then look at the smaller issues, such as special features, door-style options, ergonomic factors and the location of the oven in the kitchen.
By using a process of elimination, the decision usually presents itself. We would recommend to our clients that they visit appliance retailers and manufacturer demonstration centers where they can experience the appliance live before making a purchase.
