Your kitchen should be a reflection of you and your style, not a designer’s interpretation of you. Make sure that you pick a designer that really listens to what you are saying.
Some general principles for a great kitchen design are:
- Don’t be afraid to mix materials, colors, woods and textures. Today we mix cabinet woods and cabinet colors in one kitchen – stained and painted finished. We put different countertop materials on the island and the base cabinetry, glass and stone backsplashes, stainless steel, chrome and nickel finishes. Today they create a livable luxury, with warm textures and a hint of modernism.
- Pay attention to the details. The island is the first thing you see when you walk into a kitchen – make sure that the back is finished, maybe add a raised panel to the side and a different countertop/color. Knobs and pulls can make a big difference in the kitchen.
- Be bold in smaller spaces. Paint can bring a space alive – don’t be afraid of using a deep or bold color on one wall as an accent. Sometimes it’s easier to take risks in smaller areas you might not otherwise take in a larger space.
With a good design and great designer, it's easy to satisfy form, function and beauty.
