Designing Your Small Bathroom

Designing bathrooms tend to come with a variety of challenges as spaces often times are limited in space and variety. Throughout the years we have discovered a multitude of ways that can enhance not only the experience a family can enjoy with their bathroom but also maximize the potential that is present in the space.

Families come in with different ideas of what they desire in a bathroom; however, some items remain constant throughout the process of bathroom remodeling. Home owners are demanding bathrooms that are open, luxurious, and spa like. Often times a powder room, bathtub, and large shower area are must haves in at least one bathroom in the home. Tubs have generally decreased in size and are fitting about one person at a time. These tubs are generally seen in only one bathroom in the house while the other bathrooms may offer a shower area or communal toiletry space; although, in some cases there is a request for a shower/tub fixture in order to accommodate for guest stays. One of the most important things to remember when beginning a bathroom remodel is a budget. Many home owners do not have a realistic idea of the cost that is required to remodel a bathroom in todays current market. Home owners should sit down with a professional and discuss their needs, wants, and potential items that they can live without. From there, the professional and the home owner can collaborate on a remodel that satisfies the home owners desires while staying in a realistic budget as well.

These ideas are great when there are a variety of different bathrooms to incorporate your must haves in but how would you approach a remodel in a small bathroom split between rooms? These tight and cramped spaces leave a locked in floor plan and little space to create anew; thus, these remodels require a significant amount of creativity and again, a realistic idea in budget. Just because an area is smaller does not mean that the space will become much cheaper - choosing products, changes, and fixtures are all important money considerations while remodeling. In order to open up the bathrooms and increase space it can be done on some of the following ways: Replacing a hard to reach linen closet with a shallow and tall cabinet space. These free standing cabinets will allow for easier access and have the bathroom space feeling more open. Home owners can also invest in wall hung toilets as they will reduce the amount of space used compared to a standard toilet fixture. Installing an oversized medicine cabinet can increase your storage space while making the space feel bigger with the large mirror space that will be implemented. Use glass doors and frame less edges were applicable in order to increase the feeling of openness. Lastly, increasing the size of tile and also help to open up a room.

Why Invest In Euro-style Cabinetry?

In todays market our kitchens are no longer tucked away spaces but instead large inviting areas to entertain guests while preparing food, cooking, and cleaning up. As the economy picks up we are seeing the daring and gutsy changes in our kitchen designs that leave unique impressions and speak of a bold character that is not as common in a slower economy. Because of this we have seen our home owners pick and choose items that they truly want to see in their home.

In the past American culture has left us with large space eating pantries and small cabinetry meant more for look than practical use. Today, we are seeing a large move away from these pantries and instead a focus on appealing cabinetry with the practical space to store everything you need. But where did we get this idea?

Euro-Style cabinetry is the answer. European kitchens have never been as large as the ones we see in American and so to make the most out of the space they had their cabinets provided a genuine storage solution while still looking clean, cut, and beautiful. How do they do this? Their hinges keep the secrets of their cabinets. They are designed to be frameless and overlay the their doors with hinges instead of relying on thicker box construction. However, their unique design doesn't stop there. These cabinets are also designed to be adjustable to allow change when necessary.

These Euro-Style cabinets allow a unique and adjustable style to any home that will allow for creativity and design to prosper all while providing an abundance of storage space and practicality.

Does Everyone See Colors Differently?

For years people have been arguing about colors and the idea that people do not always see them the same as another would. This can be concerning if you are trying to design a specific style but everyone is seeing colors a little differently! In order to solve this mystery there have been a variety of studies completed to see how people report seeing colors.

In these studies researchers found that although they tested a variety if different ethnicities almost all reported the same colors in very similar ways. This argued the theory that language determines perception. However, researchers also ruled that environment can also effect how an individual might perceive a slightly different shade. For example, If you lived on Mars the color red would not be nearly as brilliant as it appears to us now due to the amount of exposure we would have to that color.

Older individuals of about 70 or so will begin to see colors differently than they had in their earlier years as their lens begins to yellow. This will cause the world will start to have a ginger tint to it. When choosing colors for these individuals focus on blues and purples as they are able to distinguish from these most. Saturated and rich colors will be seen best and large amounts of lighting will also help to enhance color perception.

Lastly, clients who experience certain color disorders need specific color choices in order to receive the most from their environment. Typically designers are requested to stray away from reds and greens and use caution when using purples or violets as they can be hard to distinguish from in this case.

When choosing your colors there should be a variety of considerations that will allow for an individual to get the most from their choices; however, generally speaking, their color choices will be seen very similarly to everyone. So no need to fret about choosing colors that won't look as good to someone else as it does to you, your home will look as amazing as it does to you as it does for someone else!
